Hand-drawn phases of the life cycle of a hibiscus flower are superimposed – the result is an animation reminiscent of a computer simulation.
Flower Study
Video-drawing, animation, 9 min. Loop
Excerpt
Strange plants and enigmatic formations bud in the FLOWER STUDY. From the initial, floral outline, the drawn lines grow and clump together into anthropomorphic-looking figures, before changing into the stage of a hibiscus blossom and gradually dissolving again. A cycle of idiosyncratic metamorphoses, as we know them from Greek mythology or from Ovid: Narkissos, who becomes a narcissus, or Hyakinthos, whom Apollo transformed into a flower.
